Sony HDR-TG5V

The Sony HDR-TG5V is the Handycam successor to 2008’s HDR-TG1. Compared 2008’s offering, the 2009 model adds geotagging support and Navteq maps so you can view on the camcorder’s screen exactly where you shot your video.

Unfortunately, unlike photos, video does not yet have a geotagging standard. This means geographical information cannot be stored inside the video files and is only directly compatible with Sony’s Picture Motion Browser software. However, the HDR-TG5V does feature a 1080p HD recording resolution along with 16GB of internal, yet expandable storage. Also featured is a 2.7” touch panel LCD screen and a 10x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens. The integrated 4 megapixel camera features face detection technology that can automatically controls focus, exposure and color. The camcorder can also take a snapshot automatically when someone smiles, even while recording HD video. The Sony HDR-TG5 is to be released in June 2009.
